Argentina cities list with latitude and longitude in Excel, CSV, SQL, XML, JSON formats
Last update : 22 January 2026.
This is the best list of 6866 cities in the Argentina available in 5 formats ( Excel, CSV, JSON, SQL, XML ). You will find only data associated with the cities of a country (capital, towns and villages). There is no information concerning the environment, such as the location of a river or a mountain, for example. All cities are associated with regions and sub-regions (where available).
Each file contains the following data: Geoname_ID, City, Alternate_Name, Country_Code, Region, Sub_region, Latitude, Longitude, Elevation, Population, Timezone, Fcode_Name. See the FAQ below for a detailed explanation.
Here is an example of the data from the Argentina file that you are going to retrieve. The data is displayed here in the form of a table:

Argentina: A Geographical Exploration and Data Resource
The Vast and Diverse Landscape of Argentina
Argentina, the second-largest country in South America, is a land of contrasts. From its northern subtropical regions to the freezing winds of Patagonia in the south, the country’s geography is as varied as it is vast. Spanning over 2.7 million square kilometers, Argentina features a wide range of landscapes including the Andes mountain range, expansive plains known as the Pampas, dense forests, and glaciers. This geographical diversity makes Argentina one of the most ecologically rich and culturally diverse nations in the world.
The country's geography plays a significant role in its climate, population distribution, and economic activity. While the fertile plains of the Pampas are home to Argentina's major agricultural outputs, such as wheat, soy, and beef, the mountain ranges in the west have influenced settlement patterns, with many towns and cities located along the foothills or in sheltered valleys. The southern regions, such as Patagonia, are known for their remote beauty and have a very different climate and lifestyle, driven by their proximity to the Antarctic region.
For anyone studying Argentina from a geographical perspective, understanding how its cities and regions are distributed is essential. The varying terrains, from the coastal regions to the high Andes, influence both the settlements and the economic activities of the country. To explore and map these variations, having access to accurate geographic data—such as latitude and longitude coordinates for cities and regions—becomes crucial. This is where my geographic database comes into play, providing detailed information about Argentina's cities, their regions, and departments, with precise latitude and longitude coordinates that allow for in-depth analysis.
Argentina’s Regions: Urban and Rural Distribution
Argentina is divided into 23 provinces and one autonomous city, Buenos Aires, which serves as the capital and the country’s most populous city. These provinces are grouped into several regions based on their geographic and climatic characteristics. The country’s diverse regional identities are shaped by the different geographical conditions that each province experiences.
The northern provinces, such as Misiones, Corrientes, and Formosa, are characterized by subtropical climates, lush forests, and proximity to the Paraná River. These areas are significant for agriculture, especially the cultivation of crops like sugarcane and tobacco. Further south, the provinces of Córdoba and Mendoza are known for their agricultural production, particularly in the wine industry, owing to the semi-arid climate in the foothills of the Andes.
The central and eastern provinces, including Santa Fe and Entre Ríos, are dominated by vast fertile plains, known as the Pampas, where the majority of the country’s agriculture and livestock industries are concentrated. To the south, Patagonia offers a stark contrast, with its arid plateaus, glaciers, and coastal regions that host a different economic landscape, often centered around tourism and natural resource extraction.
Each of Argentina’s regions has its own urban centers that serve as hubs for commerce, culture, and political power. The larger cities, including Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Rosario, and Mendoza, are located in areas with favorable climates and infrastructure, while smaller towns in the more remote areas of Patagonia or the northern provinces have a more rural focus.
By leveraging the geographic database I’ve developed, one can gain access to detailed data on Argentina’s cities and their respective regions. The database provides latitude and longitude coordinates, offering precise data for researchers and urban planners interested in understanding Argentina’s diverse geography. This tool is invaluable for anyone working in fields such as logistics, resource management, or regional planning, where accurate geographic data is essential for making informed decisions.
Latitude and Longitude: A Key to Understanding Argentina’s Geography
Latitude and longitude are vital tools for studying Argentina’s geography. These coordinates provide precise locations for cities, towns, and regions, offering insights into how geographic factors influence the development and growth of each area. The wide range of latitudes found across Argentina—from the subtropical north to the frigid south—means that the country experiences significant climatic and ecological variation, which in turn affects population density, infrastructure, and agricultural practices.
For example, Buenos Aires, located on the eastern coast of Argentina, benefits from a temperate climate that supports both urbanization and agriculture. On the other hand, cities like Ushuaia in the southernmost part of Argentina face colder conditions and a more isolated existence, yet play a central role in Argentina’s tourism and shipping industries. With precise latitude and longitude coordinates, one can visualize and analyze how Argentina’s cities and regions interact with their environment, revealing patterns that are not immediately apparent from a basic map.
The database I’ve developed provides latitude and longitude coordinates for every city in Argentina, helping to map out the country’s urban and rural geography in great detail. Whether one is studying the population distribution, regional development, or climate impacts, having access to these geographic coordinates makes it easier to assess the factors that influence the growth and challenges faced by each region.
The Role of Geographic Data in Argentina’s Development
Understanding Argentina’s geography is essential for managing the country’s development. From the rapid urbanization of Buenos Aires to the challenges faced by the rural provinces of Patagonia, geographic data is crucial in making decisions about infrastructure, resource allocation, and regional development. Access to accurate data, including the latitude and longitude of each city, enables policymakers and researchers to make informed decisions that take into account the geographical realities of Argentina.
For instance, the agricultural sector of Argentina, which accounts for a significant portion of its GDP, is heavily influenced by the geographical location of its major farming regions. The fertile soils of the Pampas are key to the country’s dominance in the global agriculture market, while the climate and topography of Mendoza make it one of the world’s most renowned wine-producing regions. The database I’ve created allows users to analyze these regions and their geographical data to make more informed decisions about agricultural policies, climate change adaptation strategies, and economic planning.
In addition to agriculture, Argentina’s energy production, transportation infrastructure, and tourism industries all benefit from precise geographic data. Understanding the spatial relationships between cities, provinces, and natural resources is essential for building more efficient infrastructure, improving supply chains, and developing sustainable tourism initiatives.
The Future of Geographic Research in Argentina
As Argentina continues to grow and develop, the need for detailed geographic data will only increase. With challenges such as urban expansion, climate change, and the sustainable management of natural resources, access to accurate geographic data is essential for informed decision-making. The geographic database I’ve developed is a vital tool for anyone interested in Argentina’s future growth and sustainability.
This database offers valuable information that can be used to study Argentina’s urbanization patterns, resource distribution, and climate effects, helping researchers, urban planners, and policymakers navigate the complexities of the country’s diverse geography. By providing detailed latitude and longitude data, it allows for a deeper understanding of Argentina’s regions and cities, offering a foundation for future development and planning.
Conclusion: Harnessing Geographic Data for Argentina’s Future
Argentina’s diverse geography is integral to its identity and development. From the fertile plains of the Pampas to the glacial expanse of Patagonia, the country’s geography shapes everything from agriculture to urbanization. By utilizing the geographic database I’ve developed, researchers, policymakers, and planners can gain a deeper understanding of how these geographical factors influence Argentina’s cities and regions. With precise latitude and longitude coordinates, this data provides the foundation for informed decision-making, ensuring that Argentina’s future development is sustainable, efficient, and well-planned.
